Why is this interesting for me?

Through this programme, students will be exposed to unique architecture in Asia and at the same time they can enjoy the unique and diverse culture of Malaysia. There will be lots of exciting activities like street sketching and photography, restoration visit, homestay programme, student interaction, culture, delicious food, and interesting classes.

Learning objectives

The programme objectives are as follows:

  • To expose foreign student to the uniqueness of Straits Architecture in Malaysia

  • To educate students the history of architecture in Asia especially in South East Asian Region

  • To educate factor affecting architecture like religion, culture, social and politic.

What do I expect to learn?

This programme will take you in a time machine and travel through time dated back in the 17th century. The programme will kick off at the School of HBP in Penang. There will be series of lectures by HBP lectures such as history of architecture in Asia and South East Asia, Urban Design of South East Asian Countries, Restoration of Historical Building in Georgetown and architectural sketching & photography. Students will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Georgetown and see the richness of straits architecture and the blend of Malaysian cultures.

Lectures, Site Visits, Field Trips/ Field Excursion, Sketches and photography exercises

Participation, Attendance, Sketches or photography

Is the certificate is awarded upon completion of the programme?

Yes

Note for students?

The minumun number of participants must at least more than 10 people. This is due to the way the programme is structured. Depending on mutual agreement, credit transfer options are also available.
